Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do forever families pick up their puppies?

We offer shipping. Forever families can also fly to our closest airport and we will bring the puppy to the airport. Or forever families can come to our acreage and have a meet and greet with us and our Wheatens while picking up their puppy.

  • What size do Wheaten Terriers grow to?

Wheatens grow to be between 30-40 pounds. Males tend to be larger usually growing to 35-40 pounds whereas girls are typically 30-35 pounds when full grown.

  • How much exercise does a Wheaten Terrier need?

Wheaten Terriers require at least 1 hour of high energy exercise a day, more exercise is better. Wheaten's are known to get up to trouble if they aren't getting enough daily activity.

  • How often should a Wheaten Terrier be groomed, bathed, and brushed?

Wheatens have a non-shedding coat which means they need extra hair care than a dog that sheds. They should be brushed at least a few times a week, although daily is better. Wheatens should be groomed every 6-8 weeks to keep up with nail trimming, sanitary trimming and to keep their coat at a desired length. Wheaten's should be bathed at least every two months, however more is better. It's a lot about watching and judging when you think they should be bathed as well.

A great grooming brush to use is one that detangles and helps thin the hair if needed.

  • What is the difference between an Irish coated and an American coated Wheaten Terrier?

Both the Irish and the American coated Wheaten Terrier are still the exact same breed which is the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier. To make a long story short, the Wheaten Terrier can be born with different coat variations. The American coat grows faster, has more of a "teddy bear" look and is soft and fluffy. The Irish coat is more wavy and wiry, it is still soft and fluffy but doesn't grow as quickly.

There is a lot of history on the coat types and is a interesting topic to research if you want to know more about it.

  • When can a puppy go home to their forever home?

Puppies can not leave their mom until they are at least 8 weeks of age. They learn a lot of valuable lessons from their mom, as well as being healthier and stronger than when weaned too early. As well as it's unethical to rehome puppies before 8 weeks because of them still needing their mom and their siblings socialization.

  • What do our puppies come with when they go to their forever homes?

Our puppies are over 8 weeks of age and are vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped when they go to their forever homes. We send them home with a puppy package which includes a health certificate, their vet booklet, some dog food, a leash, toy, and collar. We also include a blanket which has been with the mom and siblings and helps ease the puppy's transition into their new home. We also have a spay/neuter agreement that is signed by each forever home.

  • What is the cost of our puppies?

Email us to inquire about our current litters, waitlist, and pricing.

  • How does our Waitlist work?

First, you fill out our waitlist application, all of our puppies go to approved homes only. If you are approved a deposit is paid to be on our waitlist. Our waitlist goes in the order that we've received deposits. We give updates as we have news about when we will be having a litter, or if a litter has been born. If a litter has been born, we reach out in the order of our waitlist, letting the forever family know and giving them the opportunity to reserve a boy or a girl from that litter. Once the puppies are about 6 weeks of age, we start to do puppy picking by gender and personality/temperament traits.

  • How many puppies do Wheaten Terriers typically have?

Wheaten Terrier's typically have about 6 puppies a litter. However, they can have anywhere from 1 to more than 6 in a litter. It depends on each individual dog and we won't know how many puppies a mom is having until the puppies are born.

  • Do we health test our dogs?

Yes! We DNA test our dogs with Embark. They test for over 206 dog related genetic diseases.

  • How often do we take our dogs to the vet?

We keep all of our dogs vaccines up to date, as well as do yearly health checkups with our Veterinarian. We also take our dogs to the vet if needed.

  • Do we crate train?

Yes, we start our puppies crate training at night before they go to their forever homes. This helps get them into a bedtime routine, aids the new home in continuing crate training and gives them a safe and comforting den-like space for bed. So even if the new home doesn't continue to crate train, the puppy has a better time being in the crate if the need arises, such as going to the vet.

  • What do we feed our Wheatens and how often?

We feed our dogs Canadian Naturals dog food, mixing together many flavours for variety. We also feed them Lean Cuts canned food. As well as raw bones and meat from our local butcher. Our goal is to always have a healthy, well-rounded diet made of good ingredients.

We free feed dry food to our dogs at all times, that means there is always a bowl of food available for them. They have Lean Cuts, Raw food and bones often for variety and to add nutrients to their diet.

  •  What treats do we recommend?

PureBites! They are a single ingredient freeze dried treat and the dogs love them. Raw bones are even better!
